How do you see your retirement?

You will have your own view on what you want to do when you retire, as well as when you would like to finally take that decision to give up work. Many dream of retiring early and of a retirement where there are no limits to what you can do.

We have met clients with ambitions to follow Formula 1 around the world, or to follow the England cricket team on an Ashes Tour. However you see your retirement, the important thing is to start planning how you are going to achieve the retirement that you want. This is where independent financial advice can help.

Pension Freedoms

Pension freedoms

Many of you reading this will have some form of private pension, either through an employer scheme or something you have funded yourself. It's likely that you will have more than one pot if you have had more than one employer.

Under new rules you can decide how you want to access your pension pot, and there are three main options.

1. Take an annuity. This provides you with a guaranteed income for life.

2. You can leave your money invested and draw funds down when you want. Typically 25% can be taken as a tax free lump sum with the remainder staying invested and being drawdown as you want.

3. You can withdraw the whole pension pot, with 25% being taken free of tax and the remainder being subject to tax.

Whatever you decide to do, the earliest you can usually access your pension is 55 (rising to 57 in 2028) and we can help you make the right decision for your own personal situation.
